Spatial design

BRAT is an urban planning firm based in Brussels created 30 years ago. This team of 10 urban planners contributes to the development of large and small cities in Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders. With their 360° approach of city planning, they take aboard multiple parameters in account throughout the whole process, from diagnostics to solution design.

BRAT had a 20-years old logo that we decided to modernize, by giving it sharper but rounder letters, and a brand-new set of colors. In the brand guidelines, we extended the colors-palette to about 20 different colors, to ensure BRAT has enough flexibility when designing their future city maps. The brand identity has been deployed on an initial social media grid helping the team in their first communication with this new skin.

The website is organized around their unique methodology and present their fields of expertise. The team section introduces every team member with a personal biography, showing the specialties and personal interest of every team member. It also presents a massive list of references, often needed to answer public tenders.

A new skin for BRAT

Branding missions are often centered on our clients’ activities. It therefore becomes particularly thrilling and challenging when they introduce themselves with the sentence “we can do everything - there is no boundaries”.

During branding processes, first meetings with clients are always determinant and this one was no exception. Let’s do a short throwback through the experience.

The more we discuss, the more it becomes obvious “we can do everything - there is no boundaries” is not a formula, they can literally do everything. Indeed, our interlocutor explains us with passion the various projects they have been working over the past years and it goes in all directions: building a flight simulator, IT/AV rental and installation, cyber security mission, CNC and laser cut projects…

We have in front of us a kind of mad scientist, excited to deliver any project that involves creativity, problem solving and crafting. It is sometimes hard to follow: projects and ambitions are presented with passion and enthusiasm, technical details of the solutions are interesting but hard to understand.

If we don’t seize all details of the explanations, it becomes pretty obvious that what interests our interlocutor are not the problems or the solutions as such. What’s exciting is the solving process. What’s satisfying is forging the solution. What adds value is employing craftsmanship to solve the puzzle at hand.


At the end of the meeting, we briefly evoke an emotional connection with Sweden, for familial reasons. It seems there is an attachment to the country, its nature, its rudeness.

The meeting ends and it’s our turn to face a puzzle to solve.

These discussions always need a bit of temporization, before being able to make an appropriate branding proposal. Every time we meet a new context, expertise, personality, and we need time to apprehend this reality.

But it seems that we have all been hooked but the ideas of forging & crafting and reception to the intimate link with Sweden.

And then suddenly, everything became obvious. We discussed about forging, about metal, about Ironman, about Sweden… and we found JÄRN – the Swedish name for iron. The next steps followed smoothly: a bold typography with a twist, strong colors and a powerful tagline: “Forging excellence and crafting dreams”.

 challenged us to create two video ads promoting new flavors with a very limited budget. We had to come up with creative solutions and a tailored artistic direction to create two high quality video ads with less than 3500€.

We succeeded by following 3 key principles:

Considering the available budget from scratch was key in the success of the project. We had to propose a concept that was doable with a limited video crew (in this case, our video Director Jérémy and Rodolphe as DOP); with limited video and light equipment costs.

We came up with a script and story that would play on the absurd, to allow ourselves to go low-tech and limit postproduction time.

We needed video sets that were simple to limit the preps and accessories.

2- Count on your team and internal resources

This kind of projects require everyone to be flexible. We had 2 sets full of fresh flowers to build and we decided to build them ourselves. So Florian, Fenna and Bertrand have learned who to create floral arrangements, with a quite stunning result!

Jeremy and Rodolphe had to adapt materials and way of working during the shoot to make sure we could cover the shoot of the two videos within one day. We built the two sets side by side to limit time waste and be efficient. That weren’t the best conditions to work for them, but it worked!

Another challenging aspect of the project was the production management done by Elissa. Driving such a boat requires to be pragmatic and efficient. With a limited budget, you can’t afford wasting time, or making wrong choices. Sometimes you need to go for the reasonable solutions, not the optimum, and you need to explain that to your colleagues, your client, and your boss. Still, you are evaluated on the result, so you need to ensure a striking result. So you need to find the right balance!

These choices haven’t been easy to make and the project was quite demanding for our staff, but we are extremely proud to support a local brand such as Drink a Flower, and give visibility to products that are in line with our

Flower power ! 

People can have different understanding of the same company name. A name came with stereotypes, interpretation, preconception. Visual branding helps to complement these names and words, completing the understanding.

BIGGER tasked us to craft their visual identity. The mission was clear: create a visual identity for a newborn consultancy firm, that would illustrate its diverse skills, abilities to innovate, and its vision for the world: “grands rêves pour grands rêveurs” (literally “big dreams for big dreamers”).

We could have chosen simplicity and go for a design that illustrates our initial understanding of the name: BIGGER. We might have used big, bold and capital letters, combining strong and plain colors to illustrate power and strength. But we realized there was a disconnect between this approach, and the company we were working with.

After discussing the reasons behind the choice of the name and the tagline, we figured out BIGGER wasn’t meant to express power, strength, and ambition. Instead, BIGGER was a call and a statement for thinking big and dreaming the world differently. So, we aligned our proposal with this perception:

Instead of using capital font, we decided to play with low case, and twisted the letter “G” to make it look bigger than the frame. It captures the essence of thinking beyond boundaries. We also twisted the letter B, to make it softer and more elegant.

The color palette brings a lot of softness in the visual, contrasting with the strength of the name.

The imagery shows a certain insouciance, that illustrate the tagline and vision – 

. This choice reinforces the optimistic nature of the brand and its commitment to fostering creativity and innovation.

Overall, the resulting visual identity reflects a delicate balance between strength and softness, insouciance and professionalism, and an obvious capacity of thinking out of the box.

BIGGER – align name and visual

Following the production of their internal video to promote “Ma Vie En Plus” to its collaborators, Solidaris mandated us to produce a large variety of videos for the very same multimedia platform.

We produced videos of various types corresponding to the formats of the multimedia platform, each time involving face to face interviews that raise awareness on a topics related to healthcare and well-being.

We had the chance to tackle important societal subjects such as ADHD, pregnancy, hospitalization, sex education & contraception, mental health, drugs & dependencies, eco-anxiety and disabilities.

Create a video to promote the partnership between Uhoda Passion Service and Belgian rally driver Thierry Neuville.

We prepared a script and managed every element of the production, making sure that shooting happened at night so that the carwash could remain open during the day. We took care of the editing and post-production of the video, to deliver a result that blew away expectations.

Uhoda Passion Service x Thierry Neuville

We started an urban exploration in Brussels, trying to understand how people interact with the city.

The whole project started with an observation : cities don't exist for themselves. Cities are where we play, where we eat, where we work, where we meet. Cities are where we live, and they only exist because we live them. 

So we decided to take our cameras and go in the street with the objectives to depict how our fellow citizens "live" Brussels. More precisely, we try to explore life forms of the various districts that make Brussels.

As any explorer, we are not sure what we will find, but we will propose the most genuine and honest report.

Analog photography seemed to be the most adapted medium to capture the moments in their most spontaneous form, and social media seemed the most efficient platform to disseminate them. But who know what the exploration will reveal, what we will discover and how the project will evolve?

Humans as creative inspiration

We are extremely proud of our recent collaboration with l’Alliance Française Bruxelles -Europe and the production of their corporate video.

L’Alliance Française Bruxelles-Europe, is part of the network Alliance Française, the world’s largest cultural network, gathering more than 800 entities in the world. The video promotes the educative approach and the cursus offer via testimonials of the staff, teachers and learners. L’Alliance Française also asked us to showcase some digital resources available for the learners.

Corporate videos are always a great experiment for our team: it forces us to jump into our clients’ reality and understand they needs and what’s special about them.

What stroke us at Alliance Française Bruxelles-Europe was the human-centred learning process they developed. Wherever you come from and whatever languages you speak, you learn French by sharing your experience and your cultural background. Therefore, l’Alliance Française Bruxelles-Europe becomes much more than a learning center: it is a social experiment where multiculturality becomes a vector to learn French and get familiar with French culture.

A multicultural learning experience

THE SKATEROOM is a social enterprise whose main purpose is to help empower youth through art and skateboarding.

Create content to promote “SHRED” by Marc Leschelier for THE SKATEROOM and the first collective show, “WHAT ARE WE SKATING FOR?” ⁠the first collective show, working directly on skateboards as a medium.⁠

We advised THE SKATEROOM on creative and technical solutions, as well as directed a team of camera operators to produce high-quality footage for the performance by Marc Leschelier and for the after-movie of their group show.

THE SKATEROOM

Osmose aims to reduce harassment, moral and physical aggression in clubs, bars, and festivals. 

The collective is active inside clubs with a care and chill zone to provide support to anyone in need. They also provide training and consultancy services to nightlife actors.

Osmose had a project with a strong purpose.

A brand that can be easily identified on events.
A brand to communicate with a positive approach on these difficult and heavy topics.
A brand that conveys the impact of safer nightlife could have to society.
A brand that could become a quality label recognised in the nightlife sector.
A brand that could become a symbol.

The original briefing was a little evasive. But the first meeting turned quickly into a meaningful conversation.

We talked about why nightlife is an essential balance in society. Why nightlife should be safer for everyone if we want it to remain a place of freedom? How we define safer places, and how you implement them?

We created a unique logotype, mixing rounds and angular shapes, that refers to engraved lettering techniques. A bit like the marks on toilet doors that have been marked by all that has passed in need of expressing something during a short pause in a long night.

We combined this unique logotype with two fonts that combine both strength and delicacy, to convey these powerful and loving messages.

Then, we wanted to mix vivid colors and textures. As a praise to diversity and joy. So we brought gradients, textures, and quite a wide color scheme.

Osmose wanted to communicate on a single channel: Instagram. So we helped them frame their messages in a content calendar and applied the branding we created into social media posts.
